Sydney: the City of the 2000 Olympic Games!

They call it "The Big Apple" because everyone wants to take a bite. New York is a magnet for the rich and famous, and the down and out. Yesterday, people came from Ireland,Italy and Poland seeking fortune. Some found it. Today's city is still a mass of ethnic quarters - Germantown, Chinatown, Little Italy, Harlem - whose heritage lingers on in shops and restaurants, attitudes and traditions. The island purchased for a string of beads is not America's capital but it could well be, for Manhattan (an Indian name meaning a "dangerous stream of running water" has grown into a giant port, meeting place and money mecca. It is a town where the unexpected is expected." AUSTRALIA is the only nation that is also a continent. Founded as a penal colony in 1788 SYDNEY is the oldest city and the center of the largest metropolitan area in Australia as well as the great cultural centre of the nation with its famous Sydney Opera House. It lies on the southeastern coast of the continent and has one of the finest harbours in the world.
