THE PROFILE OF PRIMARY SCHOOL No. 12 Primary School No 12 in Tarnowskie Gory was founded in 1912. The development was finished in 1962. At that time there were 250 pupils attending "the twelve" in grades from 1 to 8. At present 123 students study in six classes. One class averages 22 students. The pupils of the first educational stage are located on the first floor where there is also a library, common room and the office of a school educator-adviser. The students of the grades 4-6 learn on the ground floor. At this level there is also common hall with a little stage, fitness-room, gymnasium and a little school shop. The cloak-rooms and canteen are situated in the cellar. The school surroundings consists also of a garden, a set of mini-games playgrounds and two full-sized grass football pitches that are used by the school under an agreement of usage. The school is situated in the Repty Slaskie district, not far away from the centre of the town /four kilometres/. The building and the sport facilities are in the closed area, rich in greenery, far from the heavy traffic roads. There are about 1600 inhabitants in the Repty district. The parents of the present and former students find employment in the neighbourhood in plants /Fazos/, mines and local authority administration. Over the last years there have been more and more people who were made redundant owing to the closing-downs of the factories. This situation is related to the fact that the society is being worse-off, what reflects in the restricted organisation possibilities of the school. Thanks to the efforts of the headmaster and the teachers the school has gained the sponsors from the local businesses /R. Wojtacha – lets a football pitch to the school, Z. Dolnicki – provides doughnuts and cakes from his bakery, E. Witek – sponsors international travels of the students and small transportation. A.Potempa – donates to school events like: Child’s Day, Earth Day. The District Council – co-finance the extra-curriculum activities and publishing the school newspaper. The following organisations and institutions operate in the district: Repty Slaskie District Council, People’s Sports Club "Zgoda Repty", District Fire-Brigade, Nowowiejski Choir, a choir "Slowiczek". The school co-operates with all these organisations. The Sports Club lets its facilities in return for using a school gymnasium by its members. The District Fire-Brigade do the necessary altitude work /drainpipes cleaning, cutting down the trees/ in return for using the school sport facilities free. The school singing and dancing groups "Reptusie", "Nutka" and "Scenka" systematically participate in the local and regional events organised by the Repty choires and The District Council /The Singing Picnic, Harvest Home, Mother’s Day, Saint Cecily’s Day/. Primary School No 12 is an independent budget unit in which there is a separate economic department comprising: an accountant /part-time/ and the senior accountant manager /part-time/. In the administrative department works a secretary /full-time/. The headmaster is in charge of the school. The deputy /a full-time teacher/ organises the substitutions for teachers and duties during the breaks. An educator-counsellor /full-time/, a teacher in common-room /part-time/ and a librarian /part-time/ are also employed at the school. SCHOOL ORGANS: Pedagogical Council -there are 14 teachers-members of The Pedagogical council (seven full-time teachers). 12 teachers have a MA degree with pedagogical background; the remaining two have a BA degree. Two teachers have the status "certificated", 11 are "nominated" and one is a "contracted" teacher. The above mentioned teachers take part in making the most important decisions regarding the school: the creation of the project of a school development, expressing opinion about the school budget and the organisation matters. The work plan of the school has been an open document for the last years. The Pedagogic council deals with the diagnosis of the didactic, educational and welfare matters as they come. It has worked out and modified the tools of measuring the teacher’s work. So, the process of equipping a student with very essential skills has started. It has been taken the direction whose aim is an effective school. The Pedagogical Council prepared and distributed many questionnaires among students and parents who had the opportunity for giving their suggestions about the school. The feedback has been collected and carefully analysed. The conclusions that have been reached after analysing the questionnaires contributed to the short and long-time plans of the school development plan. They are consequently monitored and evaluated what makes the process of the school development never-ending. Recently the school has faced a new challenge. As a consequence of the education system reform and the fall in birth-rate the number of students in our school has drastically gone down. In order to keep the school at the present level the efforts have been taken to open new classes of sport orientation (a tempting offer to the pupils from the whole region) and as a result to attract the children living outside the school district (free-market of educational services). To reach this goal a wide promotion campaign has started. The Internet web-site, CD-s and colourful leaflets with information about the school were created and distributed. The school responds to new challenges, co-organising the international tournaments and joining the Socrates-Comenius programme. Strictly speaking when these tasks have come to fulfilment it is easier to hold a good reputation in the eyes of its present and future "clients". Students’ Union of Primary School No. 12 -the board consists of representatives elected by the students from classes 4-6 in the beginning of each school year /September/. The Students’ Union represents interests of all the students and take part in decision making process regarding more important matters (i.e. The School Regulations’ Document), raises money for the needy, organises books and sport equipment fairs, co-organises the cultural events and has run for the last two years the coffee shop for parents attending their cyclic meetings. At our school operates also LOP (a Nature Protection League), the organisation which besides its prophylactic activities undertakes the organisation of the whole-day events called "The Earth Day" and "Cleaning-up the World". There are also other forms of the extra-curriculum activities of the school: a school shop, a folk ensemble "Reptusie", theatrical group "Scenka", vocal group "Nutka" and the Students’ Sport Club "Gwiazda". The above mentioned sports club organise activities both for the present students and the graduates attending presently junior schools and high schools. In the football and volleyball sections 75 children and youths do recreation at present? Parents’ Council -The Parents’ Council is composed of 19 members – tree parents from each class and a headmaster. The board comprises: a chairman, vice-chairman, secretary and a treasurer. The Parents’ Council have co-operated and participated in the school life for many years. A yearly budget of the Parents’ Council makes up the voluntary parents’ contributions and the profit from the organisations of local social events like: a carnival dancing ball, beer party with songs, recreational feast. The members of the Council co-organise a lot of school trips for the particular class and all the students. The huge involvement of parents has been seen in organising the district cultural events for the inhabitants: sport-recreational feasts, parties with songs, carnival balls. We can also mention the class and school events like: "New pupils’ nomination ceremony", "St. Andrews’ Party", Miner’s Day", "Christmas Eve", "Mother’s Day", "Spring Feast", "Earth Day", "Child’s Day") can’t take place without parents’ support and participation. The Parents’ Council have actively taken part in drawing-up and up-dating the most important school documents: a school statute, educational programme, school regulations, and criteria of assessing students’ behaviour and so on. At the mutual meeting of the Parents’ and Teachers’ Councils the goals of the school are set and the graduate model.
